Welcome to Year 2
About Us
A warm welcome to the Year 2 class page. The Year 2 class teacher is Mrs K Thomas with support from Miss M Thomas.
We are very much a team in Year 2 and encourage the children to have the same ethos. We motivate children to follow the Pen-Y-Fai Way by being kind, respectful, honest and joyful and to always try to be the best that we can be.
Class Information
We are very fortunate to have such a a fantastic school and we make use of as many areas as we can. These include our outdoor shelter, garden and wooded area, our shared learning areas, the green screen room and of course our classroom.
We also have access to a variety of technology and devices including iPads and laptops. We encourage ‘Pupil Voice’ at every opportunity by carrying our weekly Pupil Voice sessions, the children always provide fantastic ideas that enhance their own learning.
Each week we have a ‘Brilliant’ target, every child tries to get into the ‘Spotlight’ to earn Dojo points. We work as a class to earn 100 Dojo points, if we reach our goal we choose a class reward.
Our Learning Tools
Every pupil at our school has a Hwb account and access to Google Classroom. Hwb is the digital platform for learning and teaching in Wales.
In Year 2 we begin to learn how to use these fantastic online tools. We also have access to MyMaths and Bug Club.
We use the Read Write inc reading scheme and take part in daily phonics sessions to support this.

Year 2 topics may include:

Class Dojo
Please check Class Dojo as often as possible as this is the main form of communication between school and home. We use it to share what is being learned in the classroom through photos, videos and portfolios and to communicate important dates and messages.
