Welcome to Year 5
About Us
My name is Mr Bragg and I am the Year 5 Class Teacher. Along with the wonderful Mrs Gates, we aim to provide a nurturing and engaging environment for every child so that they can reach their full potential. We aim to equally challenge and support your child so that they are able to thrive in the Year 5 classroom environment. We believe in building strong, collaborative partnerships with parents is key to enhancing your child’s learning development. Having clear and regular communication is a great way to ensure these work-school partnership can flourish.
We hope that the information below gives you a good understanding of what life is like in Year 5. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Class Information
We have the privilege of having a varied and stimulating environment for the children to learn in.
The classroom area is set up for a variety of tasks including group and collaborative work as well as independent activities.
We have a ‘breakout area’ in the shared area, commonly known as ‘the street’ where groups or individuals can be involved in a variety of activities such as investigative work, art and craft tasks or topic related activities.
The green screen rooms, mission and ICT rooms are perfect for ICT based activities and are well resourced with desktops, laptops and iPads.
The Kitchen can be timetabled for cooking and baking slots.
The outdoor shelter (attached to the classroom), large yard, playing fields and the fantastic woodland area provide us with a valuable resource for outdoor learning.
Finally, our large, fully equipped hall is perfect for performing arts and PE activities.
Our Learning Tools
In Year 5 we use Google Classroom as our main learning platform. Weekly tasks are set on Google Classroom and children are given opportunities to complete and ‘turn in’ their attempts. This will enable the Year 5 Teachers to respond to the children’s work and to store completed tasks.
We also use the Seesaw App to set tasks and to keep a record of completed tasks.
Our online MyMaths resource is an excellent tool for teaching and supporting independent learning in Maths. It allows pupils to be challenged and supported at their particular level.
Finally, our online Bug Club resource provides the learner with a library of books set at their own reading level. Pupils can work through these books, assisted by online comprehension tasks, at their own rate. All these learning tools can be accessed at school or from the home.
Homework will be set in a variety of ways but often using one of the platforms mentioned above.

Communication
We communicate information about our class through the ClassDojo platform. This gives us the opportunity to share and celebrate learning that takes place in school as well as providing parents with information regarding upcoming events.
We communicate information to pupils through Google Classroom or Seesaw. Pupils sign into their Hwb accounts in order to access this platform. Teachers can send general class announcements or private messages.
