Welcome to Year 4

About Us

Miss Phillips

We aim to provide a stimulating, friendly, supportive yet challenging learning environment for your child in order that they can be the best they can be. Your role, as a parent, is vital in your child’s learning development and we welcome and encourage a strong home-school partnership.

We trust that the following information will be helpful to you. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Class Information

Our learning environment is rich and varied.

The classroom area is set up for group activities as well as independent tasks.

We work in a carousel format with four different activity types. These are; bubble, independent bubble, missions and skills.

We have a ‘breakout area’ in the shared area, commonly known as ‘the street’ where groups or individuals can investigate, research and be involved in arty and topic related activities.

The green screen rooms, mission and ICT rooms are perfect for ICT based activities and are well resourced with desktops, laptops and iPads.

The kitchen can be timetabled for cooking and baking slots.

The outdoor shelter (attached to the classroom), large yard, playing fields, school garden and the much treasured woodland area provide us with a valuable resource for outdoor learning.

Finally, our large, fully equipped hall is perfect for performing arts and PE activities.

Communication

We communicate information about our class to parents through the Class Dojo platform. This gives us the opportunity to share and celebrate learning that has taken place in school as well as providing parents with information regarding upcoming events.

We communicate information to pupils though Google Classroom.

Pupils sign into their Hwb accounts in order to access this platform.

Teachers can send general class announcements or private messages.

Our Learning Tools

The Google Classroom platform is our major learning tool for setting homework or class based tasks. Children can then ‘turn in’ their work when it is completed and receive feedback from the teacher. Similarly, the Seesaw app is used to set and keep a record of work produced.

Our online MyMaths resource is an excellent tool for teaching and supporting independent learning in maths. It allows pupils to be challenged and supported at their particular level.

Finally, our online Bug Club resource provides the learner with a library of books set at their own reading level. Pupils can work through these books, assisted by online comprehension tasks, at their own rate. All these learning tools can be accessed at school or from the home.

Important things to remember in Year 4

Friday
PE – Pupils should bring suitable kit for indoor/outdoor sports. Parents will be notified in advance as to when swimming sessions are due to take place.

Wednesday

Bring in book bags to change reading books. Books do not need to be changed every single week if parents are happy with reading at home. We encourage increased independence in Year 4.
